Good Tuesday morning in New York City, where buying booze is getting a little more convenient.
Here’s what else is happening:
- Under current law, New York City residents who report bars and restaurants for excessive noise can collect 25% to 50% of the fine for themselves. But the City Council is considering changes to the rule after investigators found that just two individuals, who’ve been responsible for 90% of this year’s 6,000 noise complaints, are effectively making a living by doing this.
- Rikers Island employees built themselves a secret lounge โ complete with a big-screen TV, mini fridge and leather sofas โ inside an abandoned, asbestos-and-lead-ridden jail facility, according to a recently uncovered Department of Investigation report.
- Democratic Socialists of America members are considering suing Mayor Adams for defamation after he said on MSNBC that “you had the DSA and others carrying swastikas and calling for the extermination of Jewish people” at rallies last weekend.
- NorthJersey.com’s food writer spent two weeks eating fried chicken all over the region, and settled on this top-5 list.
- Mitt Romney told an author that Oprah Winfrey approached him about forming a unity ticket with her back in 2020 to run against Donald Trump and “save the country.” (Oprah claims she merely asked Romney to run as an independent.)
