Good Thursday morning in New York City, where there’s a new “Boulevard of Death.”
Here’s what else is happening:
- A think tank has pitched a series of ideas to get extra funding for city parks, including through a 50-cent surcharge on Citi Field tickets.
- The MTA is upgrading the locks on subway conductor cabs — and considering eventually installing biometric technology to keep out scofflaws like the teens who recently took a subway for a joyride in a Queens train yard.
- Hell Gate identified a family of real estate tycoons that keeps trying to make big political donations — including two recent donations to Mayor Eric Adams’ legal defense fund — but keeps getting their money returned because they’re trying to do business with the city, and thus not allowed to give to politicians.
- U.S. Sen. John Fetterman of PA endorsed New Jersey Rep. Andy Kim to take over Bob Menendez’s Senate seat, pointing out that New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy — who also wants the Democratic nomination — was, until recently, a Republican.
- A Lower East Side funeral home owner is joining a lawsuit to block congestion pricing, arguing that it’ll make his hearse trips in and out of the congestion zone too expensive.
- CNN‘s new CEO is concerned that the network has no “swagger” anymore.
- The BBC is also reportedly swagless.
- A private spacecraft that was supposed to land on the moon had issues with some kind of “leak” and is now going to have to blow up in the air.
