Earth Day weekend 2024 celebrated in Brooklyn

Brooklynites enjoyed the great outdoors on Earth Day weekend with car-free streets, open gardens and celebrations popping up like spring flowers.

On Hoyt Street between State Street and Atlantic Avenue, The Hort gave away free plants โ€” which proved very popular โ€” and folks could decorate a scarf using natural dyes with Out of Seam. Music was provided by Augustin Grasso Quartet. The event was sponsored and funded by the Atlantic Avenue BID, and was the organizationโ€™s kickoff Open Streetย of the season.

Albee Square in Downtown Brooklyn offered a party atmosphere and activities for kids and grownups alike. Youngsters visited the recycled crafts table, put on little helmets and learned to ride bicycles, and played chess and other games in the street.
