Extra Extra: It’s even expensive for pets to live in NYC

It’s Thursday afternoon in New York City and Mayor Eric Adams’ new plan to address the housing crisis is to rewrite zoning laws and convert office spaces to apartments.

Up to 20,000 new homes could be created under the plan announced Thursday which would convert 163 million square feet of empty office space โ€” or roughly the size of Philadelphia as Adams pointed out โ€” into housing.

Here’s what else is happening:

  • All that new housing is nice, but may still be still pricy for pet owners, who are already paying an extra $250 for rent, on average, which is a big reason New York ranked 95 out of the 100 most pet-friendly cities.
  • A former New Jersey Starbucks employee was awarded $25.6 million in an unlawful termination lawsuit against the company, claiming she was fired for being white. Now, a federal judge has ordered the coffee giant to cough up another $2.7 million in damages.
  • A driver defaced their license plate to make an eight look like a three, and suddenly a Staten Island man got stuck with their EZ Pass bills.
  • Blue Beetle is one of DCโ€™s oldest characters, and when the movie premieres this weekend in theaters, it will also be the first live-action Latino superhero film for the brand.
