Genovese crime family associate sentenced to nine months in prison

Attorney General Letitia James announced the sentencing of Thomas Poli, a 65-year-old Bronx resident and an associate of the Genovese crime family, to nine months in prison for crimes related to fraud and bribery. Poli was found guilty of offering a false instrument for filing and commercial bribing in connection with a homeless services provider, Aguila Inc.

Poliโ€™s conviction stems from a 2019 criminal charge where he falsely claimed to have completed court-ordered community service. Instead of fulfilling his obligations, Poli was involved in commercial bribery, securing contracts with Aguila for vending, storage and furniture, while he was supposed to be serving the community.

โ€œRather than honor his word and his plea agreement, Thomas Poli lied to the court and got others to lie on his behalf โ€” all to get out of just a day of court-ordered community service,โ€ said Attorney General James. โ€œNow Poli must pay for his selfishness.โ€

Former Bronx County Clerk Luis Diaz, who played a part in creating a fraudulent letter that falsely stated Poli had performed volunteer work for Aguila, pleaded guilty in July 2022 to a class E felony for his role in this deceit.

In September 2023, Poli faced charges in the Bronx County Supreme Court, pleading guilty to offering a false instrument for filing and commercial bribing. He also admitted to a misdemeanor charge related to a kickback payment made to Aguilaโ€™s leadership in exchange for influence over the organizationโ€™s contracts.

In April 2022, Poli was implicated in a racketeering conspiracy linked to illegal gambling and extortions as part of the Genovese crime family, leading to a guilty plea and federal sentencing. for which he was sentenced to 22 months in prison, three years of supervised…
