Gov. Kathy Hochul said she plans on traveling to Israel Tuesday for what she called a “solidarity mission” as the Israel-Hamas war intensifies.

In a statement, the governor said she will be meeting with community leaders after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, with Israeli officials quickly declaring war and launching a series of aggressive counterattacks.

โ€œDuring these difficult times, itโ€™s more important than ever for New York to show up in support of Israel,” Hochul said on Monday. “Tomorrow Iโ€™ll be traveling to Israel for a solidarity mission where I plan to meet with diplomatic leaders and communities who have been devastated by the horrific Hamas attacks. New York will show the world that we stand with Israel โ€“ today, tomorrow and forever.โ€

Before departing, the governor will also meet with White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients to discuss immigration and the United States’ support for Israel, Hochul’s office said Monday.

The planned visit comes days after New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and several other U.S. officials were rushed to shelter to avoid rocket fire while in Israel.
