Hate-filled wall scrawler vandalizes Brooklyn synagogues: NYPD

A wall scrawler armed with a can of spray paint defaced two Brooklyn synagogues across the street from each other in a troubling night of hate, police said Tuesday.

The vandal surfaced in Manhattan Beach about 12 a.m. on May 14, where he spray-painted the front of the Manhattan Beach synagogue on West End Ave. near Hampton Ave., cops said.

The suspect ran off but returned to the area about 2:45 a.m. when he spray-painted the front of Temple Beth El Manhattan Beach, which is also on West End Ave. across the street from the first synagogue.

The facades of both houses of worship were damaged, cops said. No injuries were reported.

It was not immediately disclosed what was written on the two buildings.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the vandalism.

This is the third time in a week that cops have asked the publicโ€™s help in solving antisemitic crimes that have recently occurred in the city.

On June 26, an unhinged assailant in a bright orange shirt riding a moped threw a box cutter at a 77-year-old Orthodox Jewish man walking along Broadway near Rutledge St. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, about 5:30 p.m., cops said.

Surveillance video shows spray painter deface one of two Brooklyn synagogues, police said.

The victim was hit in the face with the blade but was not seriously harmed.

Two days later, cops released images of an antisemitic vandal in a bizarre โ€œSuper Mario Bros.โ€ mask who was recorded defacing the Sunnyside Branch of the Queens Public Library with swastikas.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Despite these incidents, antisemitc crimes in the city have dropped by 23% this year. Cops have investigated 112 anti-Jewish hate crimes as of June 25 โ€” 35 fewer than the 147 that occurred during the same period last year, according to NYPD statistics.

Anyone with information regarding any of these cases is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
