Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the indictment on Tuesday of Amedeo Ali, a 46-year-old man from Dix Hills, Long Island, who is charged with grand larceny for allegedly defrauding a Bergen Beach homeowner of approximately $305,000.ย
Ali is accused of charging for extensive plumbing renovations he was unqualified to perform and did not complete.
According to District Attorney Gonzalez, Ali presented himself as a licensed plumber to secure a contract for renovating a two-story house on East 67th Street in Bergen Beach. Despite receiving full payment, the promised work remained largely unperformed, leaving the homeowner with a significantly demolished property and additional financial burdens to rectify the incomplete renovations.
Ali, who purportedly operated under a fraudulent business license, was arraigned before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Michael Kitsis. He faces charges of second-degree grand larceny but was released without bail, with a court return date set for April 10, 2024.
