New immersive experience based on the movie ‘Poor Things’ opens in Williamsburg

A new, immersive experience based on the movie “Poor Things” is open at Maison Premiere restaurant in Williamsburg through Sunday.

Billed as “part performance, part tasting menu,” the pop-up, called “The “Salon of Seduction: Poor Things Experience” will last about 20 minutes and is inspired by scenes when the movie’s main character visits Paris.

To begin, attendees will be ushered into what organizers are describing as a Victorian-inspired peep show theater, where each guest can stand in their own booth and see a dance and theater performance. Guests will be served three small courses, which will include a cocktail and an oyster.

“Poor Things” was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, starring Emma Stone as a child-like woman named Bella Baxter who is brought back to life by a strange scientist, played by Willem Dafoe. Bella desperately wants to experience all the pleasures of adulthood and embarks on a romantic adventure with lawyer Duncan Wedderburn, played by Mark Ruffalo.

The movie played at the New York Film Festival earlier this year and opens Friday.

“With each moment we found ourselves falling more and more in love with our protagonist and her journey towards liberation,” said the event’s creator and designer, James Fluhr, who works as vice president of Creative Strategy at NVE Experience Agency.

Organizers said that guests will be playfully seduced by actors in three acts that Fluhr said are a “theatrical interpretation of the film’s major themes paired with a culinary taste to bring it to life.”

“In the end, as with all great seduction, our main goal is to whet your appetite, leaving you wanting more and ready to devour the film,” said Fluhr.

The Salon of Seduction: Poor Things Experience runs through Sunday, Dec. 10. Must be at least 21 to enter. Reservations are sold-out but there will be a stand-by line available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information visit here.
