A 37-year-old woman is in custody after she allegedly slashed two nurses and a medical resident at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey on Friday, police and hospital officials said.
Firdousi Abdul-Hakim is accused of assaulting the three hospital staffers at around 7 a.m. in the hospitalโs pediatric intensive care unit, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragรฉ.
A spokesperson for the hospital said the assaults followed a domestic dispute between two visitors that escalated into violence. No patients or family members were injured, and security officers and police responded immediately to the incident, she said.
Police said the victims suffered lacerations during the altercation. They were treated at Beth Israel’s emergency room for minor injuries and were later released, according to the hospital.
Hakim faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes. Police continue to investigate the incident and did not release additional information Friday.
