Murphy says he’ll shut down the state government before giving in to the legislature on a dramatic proposal to cut seniors’ taxes in half.ย Heย says millionaire homeowners like him don’t need the help โ€” and notes the plan wouldn’t benefit renters, or give much back to people in New Jersey’s poorest communities.ย

The clock is ticking. Murphy and legislators have to sign a budget by June 30, or most government services shut down the next day. Both sides say they’re open to compromises, but there’s no deal yet.

We’ll Ask Gov. Murphy: What about seniors who own their homes, but aren’t as wealthy as him? What about the people who’ve invested in their communities, but now say they can’t afford to stay?
