NYC man feared for life in Manhattan road rage mowdown: NYPD source

New York City road rage suspect Andrew Mosby said he feared for his life when he mowed down a truck driver whoโ€™d just slashed his tires with a knife, according to a police source familiar with the interview.

At arraignment Friday in Manhattan Criminal Court, Mosby, 26, was ordered held on $50,000 bail on a manslaughter charge.

Mosby was charged in the death around 4 p.m. Wednesday of Roberto Velez Alvarez, 54, on E. 60th St. near Park Ave. on the Upper East Side.

The violent confrontation between Mosby and Velez Alvarez began on E. 60th St., when Velez Alvarez, who was driving a gray truck, allegedly would not let Mosby merge into traffic as he drove along with his wife and three children as passengers.

During the fracas, Velez Alvarez allegedly drove his truck into one of the side view mirrors on Mosbyโ€™s car.

As the men feuded, Velez allegedly pulled a knife and slashed the tires of Mosbyโ€™s Volkswagen.

So Mosby hit the gas. Video of the incident shows Mosbyโ€™s car slamming Velez Alvarez into the plate glass video of a cafe.

EMS workers rushed Velez Alvarez to a hospital, but he could not be saved.

Mosby stayed at the scene and was taken into custody.

Mosby was driving with a suspended license, said Manhattan Assistant DA Shilpa Kalra, who argued that he is a flight risk and should be held on bail.
