NYPD officers’ deal with NYC includes pay raise, new scheduling approach

Rank-and-file police officers would get a compounded pay raise of 28.25% from 2017 to 2025 under a contract proposal reached between the Police Benevolent Association and Mayor Adams’ administration.

Some details of the deal announced Wednesday, which would apply to 23,000 police officers:

• Raises would be retroactive to 2017. The yearly increases are 2.25% starting Aug. 1, 2017; 2.5% starting Aug. 1, 2018; 3% starting Aug. 1, 2019; 3.25% starting Aug. 1, 2020; 3.25% starting Aug. 1, 2021, and 3.5% starting Aug. 1, 2022.

• Raises for the final two years of the contract will be 3.5% on Aug. 1, 2023 and 4% on Aug. 1, 2024.

• Officers with 5 1/2 years on the job will see their base pay top out at about $131,500 per year in August 2024, including holiday pay and uniform allowances. Beginning pay for new officers will be $55,000 per year, starting in August 2023.

• About 400 officers in the Bronx — the 45th and 47th precincts, Transit District 11 and Public Service Area 8 — will participate in a pilot program that would let them work longer hours in three- or four-day weeks in exchange for longer or more frequent weekends.

• Cumulatively through the 2027 city budget year, the contract would cost the city a total of $5.5 billion.
