NYPD searching for woman who slapped pro-Palestinian protester, investigating as possible hate crime

The NYPD says it’s searching for a woman who allegedly made an “anti-ethnic statement” and slapped a man’s face during Saturday’s pro-Palestinian protest on the Brooklyn Bridge.

A video posted to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, appears to show the woman shoving and yelling at a crowd of people during the protest.

“You deserve death,” she repeated several times before slapping someone in the crowd, the video shows. It’s unclear from the video who she struck, but the man filming the incident said she was “hitting people” at the protest.

Police said the woman slapped a 31-year-old man, who declined medical attention at the scene.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident.

Thousands gathered in Brooklyn and Manhattan Saturday to protest for a ceasefire in the ongoing bombardments of the Gaza strip. The demonstration temporarily shut down the Brooklyn Bridge.

Police reported one person was arrested during the protest: A 26-year-old man who was charged for putting up graffiti.
