A 38-year-old man was arrested Monday night for allegedly stabbing an elderly commuter at the Herald Square subway station after the victim refused to give him money, police said.

NYPD officials caught up to David Trotman around midnight Monday, a day after he allegedly stabbed 76-year-old Iqbal Ahmed at the Herald Square F train station near 34th street.

โ€œThe only thing I remember is walking away and feeling a sharp pain in my torso. There was blood everywhere,โ€ Ahmed wrote on a GofundMe page he created to help cover his hospital expenses. โ€œHe stabbed me in the torso and I bled profusely. I was rushed to the hospital and admitted due to severe bleeding and blood in my lung.โ€

Ahmed, an immigrant from Pakistan, works as a travel agent in Manhattan and wrote on his donation page that he has no family to turn to for help with his medical bills.

Police said Ahmed fell down the stairs as a result of the attack, leaving Trotman to flee the station in an unknown direction.

The suspect resurfaced Monday afternoon, after allegedly punching another commuter in the face aboard a northbound A train at 23rd Street. Police said they were quickly able to connect him to the Herald Square incident.

Trotman was taken into custody Monday night.

Trotman faces charges of felony assault for the Sunday stabbing and assault in the third degree for the face-punch. Attorney information for Trotman was not immediately available.

Major crimes such as murder, rape, felony assault and burglary are down 4.4% in the subway system for the first six months of 2023, compared to the first six months of 2022, according to data from the NYPD.
