Two goats who fled from their summer job eating weeds at the Historic Jersey City Cemetery earlier this week have been found.
Gracie and Hicks were found on Wednesday when a cemetery volunteer loudly shook a box of Cheerios, getting their attention as they chomped on leaves in a wooded area just 300 feet from the cemetery.
The goats, two of four that were brought from a farm to graze at the cemetery, clearing it of invasive species, went missing earlier this week. Cemetery staff asked for help finding them on social media.
โI think they thought they were watching TV, they saw the hardened criminal escape from Pennsylvania and they thought they could do the sameโ Entertainment Director at the cemetery Anthony Susco, known as โDancing Tonyโ said. โThey went in search of a different life.โ
In the meantime, Susco said he was worried about the goats fending for themselves.
โThe worst case scenario, obviously, was that they were kidnapped, but that’s far-fetched from really any type of reality here in Jersey City,โ Susco said.
Thankfully, Gracie and Hicks werenโt lost for long. A video posted on social media shows volunteers corralling the goats back to their pens.
It wasnโt the first time the two silly billies ran away from the grounds. Earlier in the summer they made another run for it to a community garden nearby. But itโll be their last breakout this year. Susco said the cemetery had to cut the goatsโ summer camp short โ all four goats and the one sheep they came with are back home for the summer.
