A large fire consumed a Staten Island home on Friday night, injuring two, including a 73-year-old woman who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The fire at 208 Benziger Ave. in New Brighton erupted shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, police said. Fire officials said the blaze escalated into a two-alarm fire that consumed the three-story homeโ€™s second and third floors.

Firefighters got the inferno under control around 11 p.m. Friday.

The 73-year-old woman was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition, where she was treated for smoke inhalation and cardiac arrest, police said. Police and fire officials did not share additional information about the second person, who the fire department said was taken to the same hospital.

The 73-year-oldโ€™s identity has not been publicly released and her condition as of Saturday afternoon was unclear.

The American Red Crossโ€™ affiliate in the Greater New York Region tweeted on Saturday that it had โ€œprovided emergency housing, financial assistance, clothing items, snacks and water to a family affected by a fire on Benziger Avenue.โ€

The fireโ€™s cause is still under investigation.
