The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report in February that showed an increase in teenagers struggling with their mental health, and the American Academy of Pediatrics has declared mental health challenges for teens a “national emergency.” Lisa Damour, psychologist, co-host of the podcast โ€œAsk Lisa: The Psychology of Parenting” and author of several books, including The Emotional Lives of Teenagers: Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescent (Ballantine Books, 2023), shares coping strategies and talks about when parents and teenagers should seek help.
