Two passengers in a Hyundai Elantra were killed early Monday when their car and a Jeep collided in a Washington Heights intersection, police said.
Three other people in the Elantra are fighting for their lives after the blistering 6:30 a.m. crash at Audubon Ave. and W. 179th St., just a few feet from the entrance to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge to the Bronx.
Some of the occupants of the car were children, according to early reports.
The Elantra โ which police believe was stolen a few days ago, according to WABC โ was heading north on Audubon Ave. when it collided with the Jeep, which was headed west on W. 179th St., witnesses told police.
The Elantra continued on to hit a parked car and overturned.
First responders removed five people from the Elantra and rushed them to Harlem Hospital and New York Presbyterian-Columbia, where two of the passengers died. Their names, genders and ages were not immediately available from the NYPD.
The 53-year-old man driving the Jeep was taken to Harlem Hospital with minor injuries.
Cops were trying to determine which driver caused the crash Monday. No charges were immediately filed.
