The second week of Pride Month — a time when LGBTQ New Yorkers and their friends commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots ― offers something for every taste: from extravagant parties, to 100-mile bike rides, to a caterpillar-making workshop.
The week’s offerings, a too-many-to-count list of events designed to elevate the LGBTQ community’s spirit of joy, resilience and unity to new heights, could easily overwhelm even the most seasoned NYC Pride participant. Thankfully, we came up with this little list to get you started. Happy Pride!
Queer retelling of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” in Brooklyn’s Carroll Park
Shakespeare’s beloved gender-bending extravaganza gets even more queer in the Smith Street Stage retelling of “As You Like It.” The actor-led, award-winning company returns to Brooklyn’s Carroll Park for a series of free performances of the classic comedy set in modern-day New York City. “A queer love story — and maybe more than one — blossoms in this production, as it does in Shakespeare’s play,” said the play’s director Katie Willmorth. Free. Thursdays to Sundays in June at 7:30 p.m. Carroll Park in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn

Queer History Walks at the Whitney Museum in Manhattan
The Whitney Museum continues its month-long celebration of LGBTQ culture by taking visitors to explore the rich queer history of the once-neglected Lower Manhattan neighborhood. Years before the arrival of Pastis, boutiques and the prominent art museum, the Meatpacking District was a faded industrial neighborhood with a seedy reputation — where many queer and trans people found acceptance among members of their chosen family. The walk will take visitors to historical sites that once provided a place to find and create queer community. Free, 6 p.m. (additional dates available) at the Whitney Museum, 99 Gansevoort St., Manhattan
