A woman pushed onto the subway tracks by a stranger Tuesday night is recovering with a minor leg injury while police hunt for her assailant, according to the NYPD.

Police said the attack unfolded around 11 p.m. at the Chambers Street station in Manhattan, when the 34-year-old woman was making her way around one of the staircases on the southbound platform for the 1, 2 and 3 trains.

At that moment, police said a man approached her and shoved her onto the tracks.

Police said the attack was unprovoked. They said they donโ€™t know if the suspect said anything to the woman before pushing her.

No train was coming at the time, so the woman was able to get back onto the platform with help from fellow commuters, according to police.

She sustained a minor leg injury, and was taken to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.

Police said the suspect fled the station. He is believed to be in his 40s, and was described as wearing a red t-shirt, a dark colored sweatshirt and tan boots.
