Malliotakis urges community members to elect Republican candidate Steve Chan

BATH BEACH — Curtailing crime was a main point of discussion at an intimate press conference outside the 62nd Precinct Saturday morning, with Steve Chan and Nicole Malliotakis as featured speakers.

Chan, a former U.S. Marine and retired NYPD sergeant, is running as a Republican for the seat of New York’s 17th State Senate District representing parts of Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Bay Ridge, Kensington and Dyker Heights.

He will be facing off against incumbent Democrat State Sen. Iwen Chu. Should Chan be victorious, he would be the first Chinese Republican in a senate seat.

“Our neighborhood has descended into chaos,” Chan said. “Everyone is fed up. We are not happy, we are mad.”

“These numbers are only over the last year,” Malliotakis noted. “This is all here in the confines of the 62nd Precinct; it’s simply outrageous what is happening.”

Malliotakis also used her platform to officially endorse Chan for the senate seat.
