Donโt rule out the New York Giantsโ All-Pro running back just yet.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that Saquon Barkley while recovering from a low-grade ankle sprain, is not expected to be a game-time decision before the team takes on the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football.ย
โIโm not saying heโs out yet. Heโs a quick healer. โฆ He feels a lot better today. I just talked to him. Weโll see where weโre at,โ Daboll said Wednesday afternoon. โSaquon is a lot better than I thought he would be todayโฆ he might heal a little bit different than another player if you will, so weโll just take it day-to-day with him.โ
New Yorkโs head coach said the running back was in better spirits as the team prepares on a short week coming off a historical comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals Thursday night.ย
Barkley, before suffering his ankle injury, had over 90 yards of total offense but under four yards per carry. He went off the field before New Yorkโs game-winning field goal to notch their first win of the 2023 season. While ankle injuries like his usually mean that he will miss time, the Giants will take the decision for Thursday right up until kickoff.ย
The Giants and 49ers are scheduled to open Week 3 of the NFL season Thursday night on Prime Video.ย
