Giants rookie receiver Jalin Hyatt out to prove versatility to Cowboys coach and NFL

When the New York Giants selected University of Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt in the third round, it seemed like a major value pick given Hyattโ€™s college production and mock draft projections.ย 

However, from his slide down the draft boards, it was clear that some teams had concerns about the Fred Biletnikoff Award winner for college footballโ€™s best receiver. Those concerns were highlighted inย the NFL Films series โ€œHey Rookie,โ€ where, during Tennesseeโ€™s Pro Day, Hyatt is recorded having a conversation with Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Robert Prince, where Prince questions whether Hyatt is more than just a deep threat.

โ€œYou know what you are,โ€ Prince tells Hyatt. โ€œYou have a skillset. Itโ€™s your speed.โ€

When Hyatt also says, โ€œI can run routes though,โ€ Prince answers back, โ€œWeโ€™re about to see.โ€

While Hyattโ€™s frustration in the video is clear, he has also been direct in his post-draft interviews at Giants facilities about his desire to prove that he is not a one-dimensional receiver. When asked directly what type of wide receiver role he sees himself playing for the Giants, Hyatt said, โ€œReally anywhereโ€ฆWherever Coach wants me at, thatโ€™s where Iโ€™m going to play.โ€ย 

โ€œIโ€™m not going to come in here and say I only play slot, or I only want to play outside,โ€ he added. โ€œThatโ€™s why I said Iโ€™m dynamic and explosive. I want to play everywhereโ€ฆIโ€™m going to do what I have to do.โ€

At the University of Tennessee, Hyatt wasnโ€™t simply asked to be a deep threat, and he was clear to address that heโ€™s played in multiple systems throughout his career.ย
