By 4:00 pm – ET on Tuesday, the New York Jets will need to cut their current roster down to the NFL requirement of 53. That means over the next 72 hours, tough decisions will have to be made for the organization to officially turn its sights to the start of the 2023 regular season.
Here, we’ll go over the most up-to-date list of the recently released players from New York and see if it means that other players in their positions could be rejoicing.
Let’s get to it.
Sunday – 6:30 pm – ET: The Jets cut linebacker Nick Vigil as first reported by Tom Pelissero. The linebacker has started 53 games in his seven-year NFL career. The release does not come as a surprise and should not leave Vigil to waivers as he is a veteran player. This is the first reported release for New York during this cutdown period.
Monday – 1:19 pm – ET: New York released offensive lineman Adam Pankey as reported by Mike Garafolo. Pankey is a candidate for the practice squad and has appeared in nine games during his five-year NFL career.
