The New York Knicks are filing a protest with the NBA to dispute their 105-103 loss against the Houston Rockets on Monday night, as first reported by ESPNโs Adrian Wojnarowski.
With the game tied at 103 apiece, Jalen Brunson was called for a foul on Houstonโs Aaron Holiday on a three-point attempt as time expired. The officiating crew led by Ed Malloy called a foul, rewarding three shots to the Rockets. Holiday hit two and relegated the Knicks to a third-consecutive loss.ย
Following the game, Malloy admitted in the Last 2 Minute (L2M) report that this was the incorrect call.
โAfter seeing it during postgame review, the offensive player was able to return to a normal playing position on the floor,โ Malloy said. โThe contact which occurred after the release of the ball therefore is incidental and marginal to the shot attempt and should not have been called.โ
