LGBT Bar NY Foundation to be honored at Brooklyn Nets 2024 Pride Night

The Brooklyn Nets have chosen the LGBT Bar Association Foundation of Greater New York as the distinguished “Nonprofit of the Night” for their Pride Night on April 6. This recognition, set during a game against the Detroit Pistons, means to highlight the foundation’s impactful work within the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in providing pro bono legal services.

Reflecting on the honor, Filcher highlighted the foundation’s commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, tracing its roots back to the height of the AIDS epidemic.

“We are honored to be selected as the Pride Nonprofit of the Night.” said Executive Director Shain Filcher, Esq. “Since the height of the AIDS epidemic, our volunteer attorneys have generously donated their time and expertise to respond to the unique legal needs of the LGBTQ+ community.

“Over the past 35 years, the core issues impacting the NYC LGBTQ+ community may have changed, but our commitment to fighting for the safety, equality, and dignity of all LGBTQ+ people remains steadfast,” Filcher continued.

The evening is scheduled to feature a series of events celebrating the Foundation, including a pregame on-court recognition ceremony, a halftime radio interview with Executive Director Shain Filcher, Esq., and an information booth about the foundation’s initiatives. Additionally, the presence of nearly 100 LGBT Bar NY community members at the event will visibly demonstrate the legal community’s support for the Nets and the principles of Pride Night.

The Pride Night is part of the Nets Unite series, an initiative of the Nets United platform aimed at bridging communities and fostering equity through the celebration of diversity. The event not only serves to honor the LGBTQIA+ community during the NBA season but also to spotlight the critical role of legal professionals in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and providing essential services to those in need.
