All-Star rookie phenom Caitlin Clark has had her ups and downs during her much-anticipated first foray into the WNBA.
Against the New York Liberty, however, sheโs experienced mostly downs, along with her Indiana teammates.
The league leaders from Brooklyn will look to continue that trend as they set out to complete a four-game season-series sweep of Clark and the Fever Saturday afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Clark entered the WNBA with even more fanfare than Liberty All-Star guard Sabrina Ionescu, the No. 1 overall pick for New York in 2020.
The 6-foot Iowa alum left the NCAA earlier this year as its all-time leading scorer and a two-time Wooden Award winner as the best player in the nation.
Ionescu also won two Woodens and departed the University of Oregon with the most triple-doubles in NCAA womenโs basketball history.
Though Indiana (8-13) is still on the outside looking in at one of the final two WNBA playoff spots, one-half game behind Chicago and Atlanta as of Wednesday, it hasnโt been able to contend with the Liberty (17-3).
And Clark, who is averaging 16.7 points per game while ranking third in the league with 7.1 assists per contest, is struggling against New York as well.
She is averaging 11.3 points, her second lowest total vs. any opponent, and 5.0 assists through the first three meetings.
Clark put up nine points on 2-of-8 shooting in her first encounter with the Liberty on May 16 in Indiana, walking off the floor with a sobering 102-86 loss in her home debut.
Two days later at Downtownโs Barclays Center, Clark played much better, amassing 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists, albeit in a 91-80 defeat.
The teams met again on June 2 in Brooklyn during the Commissionerโs Cup portion of the regular season.
