The arrival of another professional sports team in Brooklyn is on the horizon — and now it has its identity.
On Thursday, Brooklyn Football Club (BKFC) officially revealed its name, colors, and badge as it continues its buildup toward its 2025 launch where it will compete in the United States Soccer League (USL) League One, which is the third-tier of soccer in the country beneath Major League Soccer and the USL Championship.
“Honing in on the history, community, and ferocity that Brooklyn is known for; the team is excited to bring forward an identity that was developed with fan input that represents different demographics throughout Brooklyn, identifying themes of inclusion, honesty, boldness, and fearlessness,” a release from the team read.
BKFC’s design derives from landmarks and colors within the borough’s public infrastructure and its 77 neighborhoods. The limestone color represents the stone of the Brooklyn Bridge and the brown is a nod to the brownstone brick that is commonplace throughout the borough.
“Brooklyn is the world’s borough, at the forefront of culture and arts,” designer Chris Payne said. “Brooklyn is, unapologetically, Brooklyn. Encompassing that into a logo felt less about trying to mirror a traditional badge and
more about representing our iconic borough with something bold and forward.
The franchise is controlled by New York-based family office North Sixth Group and their leading chairman, Matt Rizzetta. The 40-year-old is also a minority shareholder within Serie B side, Ascoli, and the majority owner of Campobasso 1919 of Serie D, which features famous investors in Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.
