4 area churches join Sacred Sites open house

Four Capital Region churches will be part of the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s annual Sacred Sites open house program on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21.

โ€œCongregations and Communities: 50 Years of Sacred Sites,โ€ will welcome visitors to explore the “extraordinary architecture, art and history of world-class houses of worship.”ย The congregations will showcase their buildings, histories, cultural and community programs through lectures, musical performances and guided tours in the free, state-wide event. This yearโ€™s event commemorates the Conservancyโ€™s 50th anniversary year-long celebration.

To date, congregations participating are:ย 

โ€ข Joy of Troy Seventh-Day Adventist, 600 3rd Ave., Troy, 1 to 5 p.m. May 20

โ€ขย  Emmanuel Church, 275 State St., Albany, noon to 3 p.m.ย May 21ย 

โ€ข ย Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy-Schenectady Road, 2 to 4 p.m. May 21ย 

โ€ขย  Christ Church, 132 Duanesburg Churches Road, Duanesburg, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21ย 

โ€œThe Capital Region has wonderful architecture,โ€ Conservancy President Peg Breen said. โ€œOur Open House is a chance to see several lovely, and culturally rich, religious institutions of various styles and periods.โ€ย
