Jevonte Osterhout to serve a year in jail after Rensselaer County jury convicted him of sexual assault and child endangerment
TROY โ A former Albany firefighter who was acquitted of rape charges in May was sentenced to a year in jail Friday for misdemeanor convictions tied to the case, according to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s office.
Jevonte Osterhout, 31, of Albany was initially charged with first- and third-degree rape when he was indicted last year, but the jury at his trial in May only convicted him of third-degree sexual assault and child endangerment.
The jury rendered its verdict on May 12. Osterhout was sentenced Friday by Judge Jennifer Sober.
Osterhout was represented by Julie Nociolo. She could not be reached for immediate comment.
Osterhout was a firefighter/emergency medical technician for the Albany Fire Department and an emergency medical technician for the Bruen Rescue Squad at the time of his arrest. Osterhout was initially placed on leave from his Albany job, but city officials on Friday said he resigned on June 7.
The indictment alleged Osterhout had sexual contact with a person under the age of 17 during aย Dec. 31, 2021 incident at 1116 Red Mill Road, East Greenbush, the base of operations for the W.F. Bruen Rescue Squad.
Osterhout had worked as a city firefighter since March 2021 and with the rescue squad in East Greenbush since December 2018.ย
The case was investigated by the East Greenbush Police Department.
