Albany Academy pounds out three home runs in big baseball win over Ravena

RAVENA — Producing crooked numbers has proven to be a common practice for the Albany Academy baseball team this spring in Colonial Council play. Friday, the Cadets kept that theme of scoring more than once in an inning alive and it helped produce another lopsided league win.

Albany Academy amassed 10 runs through four innings of play at Ravena and helped expedite a shorter outing for itself by scoring six times in the top of the fifth inning, featuring a trio of home runs, and closed out the Indians as junior starter Geneo Savoca retired the home team in order to secure a 16-3 league victory at Pieter B. Albany Academy (11-2 overall, 10-0 league) is averaging 12 runs per game in the Colonial Council and has outscored its opponents 134-58 overall as the Cadets have also faced a trio of Suburban Council opponents in nonleague action.

“We are just trying to battle every day. That is what this group is about,” Albany Academy coach Adam Penrose said. “We are not trying to look too far ahead, just work against the group in front of us. That is all we’re worried about.”

The Cadets opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning, only to see the Indians (6-6, 5-5) respond by scoring twice in the bottom of the inning.

“We were on (Savoca) early, but we had seven errors in the field. We fell apart after that,” Ravena coach Justin Bullis said.

Albany Academy took advantage of four errors in the second inning, including three in a row, to…
