ALBANY โ Anya Tucker is leaving NEWS10ABC, and the rest of the news industry.
The journalist made the announcement Tuesday in a post that went up on WTEN’s website.
โIโll be forever grateful to the people of the Capital Region and Lansing, Mich. (WLNS) who shared their experiences, concerns and stories with me over my 24-year-long career,” Tucker wrote in her goodbye post. “Iโve enjoyed a thrilling ride covering national stories such as hurricanes Katrina and Rita and local ones like the search for missing Jaliek Rainwalker. There were countless exciting court and crime stories, pandemic stories, and perhaps my favorite: the story of Ollie, a sweet blind and deaf cow and his ‘seeing eye cow’ Sunny.โ
Tucker joined WTEN more than 17 years ago after working at a CBS affiliate in Michigan.
She is one of the most recognized reporters at the local ABC affiliate, reporting on breaking news as well as features and investigative pieces. She is an regional Emmy- and Edward R.ย Murrow-Award-winning reporter who began her career as a writer at WXYZ in Detroit.ย
WTEN’s news director, Ryan Mott, called Tucker “a legend.” He said thatย while it’s tough news to process, they will always support her.ย
On a personal note, I’ve often referred to Tucker as one of my favorite broadcast journalists in the Capital Region. Her 2022 contribution to our “20 Things You Don’t Know About Me” feature was one of our most-read. In it, she talked about her sisters and how she brought one โ who hails from Vietnam โ to school for show and tell. She also talked about how she can read Braille and the item thatย skeeves her out to touch.
