The awards, better known as the Eddies, and its accompanying hall of fame were created by Proctors Collaborative to highlight the local music scene, including producers, records labels and arts journalists.
“In the first five years, we have had over 450 different individuals, bands and organizations nominated, some multiple times, for a total of 950 finalists,” said Jim Murphy, Eddies founder and co-producer in a statement. “All of it exists as a vessel for the music community to come together and celebrate.”
Jive won Video of the Year for “Encyclopedia Black and the Case of You” and Album of the Year for “The Ghost of Alexander,” while Worthley’s “How Soon Is Now?” nabbed Record of the Year. Other big winners include Frank Cavone of Mirth Films with three awards and WEXT and Albany Symphony with two apiece.
Three merit awards were given to organizations and individuals for their contributions to the music community that extend beyond the traditional categories. This year’s recipients were the music collective Family Tree, for its Monday night residency at the Putnam Place in Saratoga featuring local artists; Mirth Films for “Courtyard Sessions,” a 26-episode mini-concert video series; and Vanguard’s Instruments for Students, which collects musical instruments to donate to students who otherwise can’t afford to purchase or rent their own.
