AMSTERDAM — Cappie’s Drive-in, a local eatery famed for its homemade ice cream and signature hot dogs, has hit the market with a price tag of $799,000.
The family-owned restaurant has served Montgomery County residents and travelers seasonally since opening on Route 67 in 1965. But now, as owners Donna and Craig Durindick prepare for retirement in the Sunshine State, they are looking for someone else to take the reins.
“It’s bittersweet,” said Donna Durindick, who took over from her aunt and uncle in 1997. The couple plans on assisting the buyer in learning about the business and said there is a lucrative opportunity to extend its current five-month season, add breakfast service or use the acreage to diversify the operation by adding a mini-golf course or party pavilion.
The 50-seat full-service restaurant offers a turnkey operation, its quaint and homey interior ready for immediate takeover. The 6.4-acre property also includes a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home and a building with rental income.
The property is listed with Roohan Realty of Saratoga Springs by agents Cindy Hollowood and Anna O’Toole. More information can be found on their website.
