GLENS FALLS — The Capital District Transportation Authority announced Thursday that it will be expanding its service to Warren County by merging with Greater Glens Falls Transit.
The Warren County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution Thursday to merge with the CDTA, marking the sixth county in the Capital Region to join the authority. It expanded its service to Montgomery County last August.
“As we move through 2023, we know the key role that good transportation service plays in the development of our region and that’s a charge we take very seriously,” said Jayme Lahut, CDTA Board Chairman, in a statement. “Expanding services into Warren County and merging with GGFT will create new opportunities and connect people to the broader Capital Region.”
CDTA will work with Glens Falls to transition employees and will assume the Greater Glens Falls Transit assets, including equipment, property and other administrative items, according to the CDTA. That process will take several months.
Glens Falls Mayor Bill Collins said the merger is a step toward stabilizing and growing transportation services throughout the county.
“On behalf of all the residents in the City of Glens Falls, I would like to thank the Board of Supervisors for being willing to work together in this partnership connecting people and communities,” Collins said in a statement. “I don’t think anyone can understate the economic benefit of this merger between CDTA and GGFT as we move into our region’s busiest time of the public transportation year.”
