TROY – City police say the death of a man whose body was found in an abandoned 8th Street home Friday night is not suspicious.
Assistant Chief Steven Barker said in a statement that patrol officers learned that a dead person was found in the home near Hoosick Street. Detectives and evidence technicians assisted in the investigation. The adult man was identified and was a Capital Region resident. Police were working to notify the dead man’s family members.
The preliminary investigation determined there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, that the death occurred recently and that the man appeared to have been temporarily using the building for shelter. A follow-up investigation will continue to determine the potential cause of death.
While investigating the incident it was determined the abandoned building was structurally unstable. Troy firefighters responded and are overseeing that aspect of the incident, Barker said.
If any community member has information about this case they are asked to call detectives at (518) 270-4421 or report online at troypd.org.Â
