ROTTERDAM – Town police were conducting a death investigation Friday night along Fern Avenue, Police Chief Michael Brown said.
Brown was holding off on details of the probe for now, including the manner of the death, as the investigation continues.
Rotterdam detectives are being assisted by State Police.
“Due to this being an active and ongoing investigation, no further details are currently available,” said a statement released at about 9 p.m.
Police asked anyone with information to contact them at 518.355.7397 ext. 289.
Police cordoned off a section of the street. Footage tweeted by television station WNYT NewsChannel 13 showed police vehicles and white-coated forensic team members making their way along the road. Fern Avenue is off Guilderland Avenue (Route 158) south of Route 7 and north of the state Thruway.
On June 16, a man was shot in the leg during a large party on the street. At about 11:40 p.m. that Friday night, police responded after getting several reports about shots being fired.
Officers said at the time they encountered a man with a gunshot wound to his lower leg and rendered first aid. He was hospitalized with an injury believed to be non-life-threatening. An update on that case was not available.
