Q: I have to travel Route 146 through the village of Altamont. Over the years with repaving, the manholes are recessed enough that it feels like a line of manmade potholes, particularly from Route 156 to the Altamont Fairgrounds. This is a state highway. Can they be repaired?
A: The state Department of Transportation sent a crew to evaluate that stretch of Route 146, and working with the village of Altamont, has leveled out the blacktop, according to DOT spokesman Bryan Viggiani. If problems persist, write back in and let us know.
Q: When are the restrooms at the I-90 west rest area in Schodack coming back? They were taken down and never replaced. I would think the truckers would appreciate them.

A: Those restrooms won’t be replaced, Viggiani said. The rest stop was converted to a text stop, parking area for travelers and roadside truck inspection location when the bathrooms were removed. But truckers needn’t despair: A commercially operated truck stop is located about two miles away at Exit 12.
Regarding other rest stops in New York, the Thruway Authority has reopened six renovated service areas. The Plattekill service area reopened just over two weeks ago, joining the Clifton Springs, Iroquois, Indian Castle, Chittenango and Junius Ponds service areas.Â
