With Arcangelo’s historic win in the Belmont Stakes in the rear-view mirror, the countdown to the Saratoga Race Course meet has begun.
In less than a month, tens of thousands of people will flood Saratoga Springs to watch the races — and maybe make some money. The 2022 Saratoga racing season welcomed more than one million fans in total paid attendance, generating a record $878.2 million in total wagering.
The 2023 Saratoga season boasts a lineup of 71 stakes races over 40 racing days, giving fans plenty of chances to see the action at the historic racetrack.
“The popularity of Saratoga Race Course continues to exceed all expectations,” said Patrick McKenna, a spokesman for the New York Racing Association. “As we look forward to opening day on July 13, advance ticket sales and hospitality reservations point to another banner season at the Spa.”
The 2023 Saratoga racing season kicks off on July 13 with the $175,000 Grade III Schuylerville stakes race. Travers Day, the crown jewel of the Saratoga lineup, is set for Saturday, Aug. 26. There will be five Grade I stakes races that day, culminating with the $1.25 million Mid-Summer Derby.
Other highlights of the summer include the Jim Dandy on July 29, the Whitney on Aug. 5 and the Alabama on Aug. 19. The meets run through Labor Day weekend, and tickets are available at nyra.com/saratoga/tickets/admissions.
“In addition to the excitement on track, NYRA looks forward to presenting a series of special events highlighted by the popular Saratoga Breakfast and Breeding Farm tours and our expanded partnership with Taste NY,” McKenna added. “The summer meet is a 40-day celebration of world-class thoroughbred racing at the sport’s most enduring venue.”
