ALBANY— A state prison inmate was charged with the murder of 26-year-old Hacief Oliver, who was gunned down in West Hill in November.
Willie Green, 40, of Clinton Street, pleaded not guilty Thursday to a three-count indictment charging him with the Nov. 10 killing of Oliver on the 300 block of Second Street between North Lake Avenue and Judson Street.
A second victim, who was not identified, was shot in the stomach.
Green, serving a four-year prison term in Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Washington County for attempted drug possession, is not expected to be released until at least June 2026. Green has previously served prison time for attempted drug possession and attempted possession of a weapon.
On Thursday, represented by court-appointed Albany attorney Paul Edwards, Green pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, second-degree criminal facilitation and first-degree hindering prosecution.
The murder charge carries 25 years to life in prison upon conviction. The criminal facilitation charge carries up to 15 years in prison, while the hindering prosecution charge carries up to seven years.
Members of Oliver’s family were in court for the arraignment. Two officers from the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision stood nearby as a shackled Green stood before the judge.
The judge ordered Green back to state prison. Albany County Assistant District Attorney Joseph Brucato is prosecuting.
