Jonathan Hunter has left WNYT after two years at the station. He announced the move on social media earlier this month.
“After living and working in upstate New York, I’m pleased to announce, I’m back home,” wrote Hunter. “I’m also the newest reporter in Baltimore. I work at WMAR. If you want to watch me on TV, feel free to watch channel 2.”
Hunter came to NewsChannel13 from Rochester.
When Hunter was featured as a “20 things you don’t know about me” earlier this year, he talked about how he prides himself on his work ethic, but also enjoys being a jokester. He said he is known for regularly making his colleagues laugh in the newsroom.
He earned a high five from his new on-air team on his first night on the Baltimore-based set. They were pleased to have a homegrown reporter joining the station.
Hunter is the fifth broadcast media personality to leave his or her station in 2023. Earlier this year, Anne McCloy left CBS6 Albany; Harrison Grubb announced in March he was leaving News10ABC after two years with the station; Spectrum’s Jaclyn Cangro announced her departure as well this year. Neal Estano, a meteorologist at WNYT, said goodbye to NewsChannel13 viewers at the end of February.
In 2022, 25 people left their Capital Region-based on-air media roles.
