Judge sentences Albany man in death of teen Chyna Forney

ALBANY — A judge sentenced Alvin Foy III, of Albany, to 25 years to life on Friday for his role in the shooting death of high school senior Chyna Forney in 2021.

However, before acting state Supreme Court Justice Roger D. McDonough handed down his sentence, he kicked Foy out of the courtroom because he repeatedly interrupted the judge during the proceedings.

Foy was sentenced in absentia after he laughed while Forney’s sister delivered a victim impact statement and repeatedly made comments to the court maintaining his innocence.

He was convicted in April of second-degree murder, attempted murder and weapons charges for his actions that led to the death of  Forney, 18, who was just weeks away from her graduation from Albany Leadership Charter High School For Girls. She had been shot in the back when police found her lying on Albany’s Essex Street, the unintended target of the bullet that killed her, police said at the time.

Foy was also 18 at the time of the incident.

Jahmere Manning, 20, of Albany, was also charged with murder in Forney’s slaying. Manning pleaded guilty last year to murder charges and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

This story will be updated.
