FORT EDWARD โ The man who allegedly shot 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis when the car she was riding in turned around in his driveway has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge, with additional charges also added of reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence.
As first reported by WNYT, a Washington County grand jury indicted Kevin Monahan, 65,ย of Hebron on the same murder charge he faced after the April 15ย shooting. The indictment alleges he fired his 20-gauge shotgun twice at a car carrying four young people around 10 p.m. that night.ย Gillis of Schuylerville died after she was struck in the neck by a rifle slug.
Monahan, whom a neighbor said was growing more agitated by people on his property, remains in jail. Two judges denied Monahan bail after Washington County District Attorney Tony Jordanย argued that Monahan was a flight risk. On Thursday afternoon, Jordan said he could “not discuss the specifics of the case.”
However, the indictment reads that Monahan showed “depraved indifference to human life,” thus the murder and reckless endangerment charges. The indictment, overseen by Judge Adam Michelini, also alleged he tried to conceal, alter or destroy physical evidence. The details for what authorities allegeย Monahan did in terms of evidence is unclear.
