SCHENECTADY — Schenectady County Legislator Jeff McDonald resigned Friday, citing the growing demands of running his construction company, according to a news release from the county.
The Democrat, who represented District 2, had served as a lawmaker since 2008.
District 2 covers the city of Schenectady, McDonald’s hometown.
“While I have been proud to serve the community on the Schenectady County Legislature, unfortunately, the demands of my business have become too great for me to continue in this role,” McDonald said in a statement.
Until his departure, he had served as vice-chair of the legislature and was a member of the panel’s Rules and Ways & Means committees.
An engineer by trade, McDonald in 2019 announced that he was selling the Stockade Inn in Schenectady to devote more time to his eponymous home construction business, McDonald Custom Homes.
The county charter stipulates that legislators must call a meeting within 45 days to appoint a successor to complete McDonald’s unexpired term.
