Andrew Gibson will spend at least 10 years in state prison for the crash that killed Lisa Sperry
ALBANY — A Westerlo man was sentenced to more than 10 years in state prison for killing a Berne woman in a May 16, 2021, drunk driving crash.
Andrew Gibson, 44, previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated vehicular homicide in the death of Lisa Sperry. Two passengers were also injured in the crash on County Route 401. Troopers at the time said Gibson was driving north on Route 401 when he passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone and lost control on a curve. His car sideswiped a motorcycle before colliding with Sperry’s minivan. Sperry died two days after the crash.
Judge Andra Ackerman sentenced Gibson to 8 1/3 to 25 years in state prison, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s office.
Gibson was also sentenced to an additional 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison after pleading guilty to bail jumping. Gibson had failed to appear for his original sentencing in Perry’s death in February 2022.
The two prison sentences will run consecutively.
