ALBANY — An Albany man is accused of shooting two dogs with an illegally possessed weapon, city police said. One of the dogs was euthanized.

Around 5:50 a.m. Friday, police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Second Street and Lexington Avenue. They found two wounded dogs.

Shortly afterward, Albany Medical Center Hospital staff notified police that a man entered the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the foot. The suspect’s injuries are non-life-threatening. He was treated for his wound and several dog bites.

Police determined the suspect, 24, was attacked by the dogs while walking down Second Street and shot each animal one time with a 9mm handgun.

Both dogs were taken to an emergency veterinary hospital in Latham by city officers. One dog suffered a non-life-threatening wound, but the other dog suffered a serious injury and was euthanized.
