Mason Carroll is a junior midfielder for the Shenendehowa boys’ lacrosse team.
A third-year varsity performer, Carroll tallied three goals and two assists Saturday in an 11-8 victory over Mamaroneck.
The Plainsmen, the 2022 Section II Class A champions, return to action Tuesday when they host Christian Brothers Academy.
Q: How big was it to get the win against Mamaroneck on Saturday?
A: It was definitely a game changer. We lost to (Niskayuna). We lost to Lakeland. I feel like we haven’t reached our full potential yet. Getting the win against Mamaroneck, I feel like we will be on a roll after that.
Q: Talking with coach Jason Gifford after the loss to Niskayuna, he said this season’s team is young and made mistakes in that game. At the same time, he felt there were a number of positives that came from that contest as well. Did you feel the team made progress that day?
A: Yes, definitely. Some games, we will miss big ground balls. It is just the little things in the game we need to improve on — missing on ground balls or not putting a pass on a guy’s shoulder.
Q: What do you feel like the team can accomplish this season?
A: I think we can win sectionals again.
Q: What do you feel it is going to take to win another title?
A: Definitely getting comfortable with each other. We have a few new guys that are in starting spots. Working on the little things and getting comfortable, hopefully, we will do great.
Q: From your prospective as a third-year varsity player, what are you trying to bring to this season’s team?
A: Energy and hope, doing things that get us going and having us ready for big games.
