ALBANY – A Massachusetts woman was sentenced to three to nine years in prison for being the driver in a collision that seriously injured two people.

Isabella Wasuk, 23, of Pittsfield was sentenced before Judge William Little in Albany County Court Thursday morning, which follows her April 20 guilty plea to aggravated vehicular assault, District Attorney David Soares’ office said. Her license also will be revoked.

It was alleged that on Aug. 26 along I-90 in Albany, she intentionally drove a car under the influence of alcohol, causing the crash that injured the two people in another vehicle, prosecutors said. A test showed Wasuk’s blood alcohol content was 0.25 percent, over three times the legal
limit.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Tanner-Richter, chief of the office’s Vehicular Crimes Bureau, who prosecuted the case, noted how three lives were permanently altered that day.

“Two people were seriously hurt, and the defendant will spend years behind bars for something that was completely preventable. The fact that no one was killed that day is frankly miraculous, but we shouldn’t have to rely on miracles for problems that are completely in our control. Simply put, don’t drive drunk,” Tanner-Richter said in a statement.
