Neal Estano is leaving NewsChannel13 after a decade with the station and more than 35 years in broadcast media.
Estano was the region’s first TV morning meteorologist on the initial morning newscast in the area at WRGB/CBS6 Albany back in 1987. He’s one of only four meteorologists on the morning news at WNYT since the show’s inception.
The morning program started in the late 1980s with the famed Norm Sebastián, who died of cancer at age 44. Paul Caiano — who was recently appointed chief meteorologist after Bob Kovachick’s retirement — followed. Most recently, Christina Talamo and Estano teamed up on weekday mornings with Talamo appearing on the show three days a week. She also does the weather on weekend mornings.
Estano had left broadcast television for a brief period and was working in real estate — and at The Point Resort in Saranac Lake — when he started at WNYT in 2013.
He confirms he is not going to another station.
“Other than that, I have no further comment,” said Estano.
When reached for comment on Estano’s departure, as well as his replacement, WNYT news director, Michael A. Raffaele said “I think what we posted on the website works for us. I appreciate you reaching out.”
Estano’s last day at the station is Thursday.
